When collecting your car, why not explore what the area has to offer? Potos was once the main harbour for the mountain village of Theologos, which used to be the Island’s capital. It is a vibrant busy little resort and has a cosmopolitan feel with its abundance of restaurants, tavernas and shops, it also has a beautiful sandy beach which offers safe bathing. In the evenings Potos offers great night life. There is an ATM on the main coastal road opposite the pharmacy of the resort.
Regardless of which direction you choose to leave Potos, there are petrol stations within easy reach. During May, June and September the roads are generally not too busy in this area but at the height of the season in July and August the traffic can be heavy especially when driving through Potos.
Heading south west on the main coastal road out of Potos your first port of call will be the beach resort of Pefkari with its restaurants, tavernas and beach bars lining a beautiful sandy/pebbly beach. Just a few kilometers away lies picturesque Metalia beach, with its crystal clear sea, beach bar and dramatic shoreline. Please note that for Metalia you will need a Suzuki Jimny 4x4 as the road down is not asphalt. Around the headland is Limenaria the second largest town on the island. It has a beautiful harbour and long promenade with plenty of restaurants, tavernas, coffee shops and sandy beaches.
Back to Potos and heading inland you will find the mountain village of Theologos which is well worth a visit, here you will find churches, restaurants and tavernas all set amongst picturesque stone houses. Traditional crafts are still practiced in the village and you may also find traditional produce for sale when you stroll through its many streets.
The next place to visit is the beautiful sandy beach of Psili Ammos ‘the bay of fine sand’ with its stunning clear water and picturesque setting. It becomes very busy during the high season but offers plenty of parking off the main road just across from the beach. Follow on through Astris where our head office is located with its own petrol station (incl. LPG gas) ‘Thassos Oil’, approximately 9 km away, you will reach the Monastery of Archangelos. The rugged coastal views around this area are amazing.
